If you are then it’s reasonable to assume you’ve tried to build a coffee table before. If you have then you are keenly aware of what it takes.
And what it takes is time, effort and money.
If this is your first attempt then you shouldn’t worry. It’s not a difficult task. If you want to succeed in building one, you will.
There may be questions you have. You may wonder if directions for building a coffee table are too difficult. You may be wondering if building a coffee table from coffee table plans will require too much time, money and effort.
But you shouldn’t worry. With the right plans you won’t have any trouble. It’s a very simple process.
Creating a coffee table with your bare hands can be an excellent source of pride. The pride of a job well done and being able to display something prominently in your home that you yourself built is a great feeling.
Simply put, following the right plans can be very rewarding.
What You Need Before Starting
You’ll need coffee table legs. 4 legs at approximately 14 inches in length. 2 by 2 is common but you can use thicker.
You’ll also need coach bolts. The most common bolts used are 6-inch with the additional washer and wingnuts for added sturdiness.
You’ll need the coffee table top. Use any type of wood you would like but always try to get higher quality wood. Remember you get what you pay for. The most common size for the table top is 2.5 feet by 4 feet and 2 to 3 inches thick.
Corner supports. For your coffee table plans use a 6 inch board cut at a 45 degree angle at both ends.
You’ll need wood screws. We suggest using 30 at 1.5 inches in length and 16 at 2.6 inches in length.
Some glue. You should have at least one bottle of wood glue handy.
And the top rail. You should have 2 or more of these at around 40 inches long and 2 or more at 18 inches.
All or most of your materials that you need you can find at your local home improvement or hardware store. They can also be purchased online.
Following The Plan
The most important thing about following plans (especially if this is your first attempt) is to follow the coffee table plans exactly as they are laid out.
Don’t skip any of the steps. Each step is of equal importance.
And try and find table plans that are suitable to your experience. If you are a novice then you shouldn’t choose advanced instructions. It can be extraordinarily frustrating working with coffee table plans that are far passed your skill level.
